New York State Attorney General

As head of the Department of Law, the Attorney General is both the “People’s Lawyer” and the State’s chief legal officer. As the “People’s Lawyer,” the Attorney General serves as the guardian of the legal rights of the citizens of New York, its organizations and its natural resources. In his role as the State’s chief legal counsel, the Attorney General not only advises the Executive branch of State government, but also defends actions and proceedings on behalf of the State.

The Attorney General serves all New Yorkers in numerous matters affecting their daily lives.The Attorney General’s Office is charged with the statutory and common law powers to protect consumers and investors, charitable donors, the public health and environment, civil rights, and the rights of wage-earners and businesses across the State.

New York State Office for New Americans

New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo established the Office for New Americans (ONA) to assist newcomers to New York State who are eager to contribute to our economy and become part of the family of New York State. The New York State Office for New Americans helps New Americans fully participate in New York State civic and economic life. We are committed to strengthening New York State’s welcoming environment for New Americans.

It is important to understand your legal rights as a young person living in New York City. The Door’s Legal Services Center is here to provide you with different kinds of legal counsel. We offer services in English, Spanish and Mandarin, and can access translators for many other languages.

Catholic Charities Community Services

Immigration legal services are offered to immigrants in need of assistance with immigration status including: Application for Naturalization, Relative Petitions, Work Authorization Applications. A minimal consultation fee may apply. Catholic Charities Community Services of Rockland also provides immigration advocacy services and will make referrals for other services, as needed. To schedule an appointment in the Haverstraw office, please call (845) 942-5791 between the hours of 10 AM and 4 PM

The Rockland County Department of Social Services (DSS) offers a wide range of eligibility programs and services to families and individuals to assist them in meeting their basic needs for food, shelter and medical care. We also offer a broad range of support services, including services to strengthen family life, prevent family disruption, promote individual functioning and keep families together; temporary placement in foster homes, group homes or institutions; and services to help the elderly or disabled remain in their own home.

The Rockland County Bar Association (RCBA) is a nonprofit, professional association in New City, New York. It has more than 600 members and is the 6th-largest bar association outside of New York City. We are committed to maintaining the dignity of the profession of law and increasing its usefulness in promoting the development of the law; the due administration of justice, the mutual improvement and social intercourse of its members under the restrictions and regulations established by its by-laws.

We help your neighbors as you would like to be helped if your family were in need.

The Salvation Army

Group homes, emergency shelters, and transitional living centers provide housing on a temporary basis for varying amounts of time.  They serve the homeless by providing food and overnight lodging.

Together Our Unity Can Heal, Inc. (TOUCH)

TOUCH is a private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to nurturing our neighbors living with chronic illness in our community. TOUCH strives to fight discrimination and respond humanely to those affected by and living with chronic health conditions like HIV/AIDS, diabetes, heart disease, hepatitis and other health modalities. A wide variety of services and programs are offered by TOUCH. One goal of TOUCH is to offer care, supplies, support and love to those in need in our community and to enable those persons to live their life to its fullest.
